20th Century Fox film company has not had enough of the ‘Planet of the Apes’ franchise. According to Deadline, director Wes Ball is working on a new film in the series. The new film is still at a very early stage of development. It is therefore not yet clear whether the story follows the events from the last film. Possibly it is also based on the original series.

The first film about a planet in which monkeys are the dominant species came out in 1968. The story, based on the book ‘La Plan├Ęte Des Singes’ by writer Pierre Boulle, caught on and four sequels followed.

In 2001 Tim Burton made a remake with Mark Wahlberg in the lead role. Ten years later director Matthew Reeves ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ started a new series, in which Andy Serkis played chimpanzee Caesar with the help of the motion capture technique.
